Me me me me me!!!!!
I definitely tend toward making excuses. In fact, I think sometimes I like excuses just as much as I like condiments. And for those of you who know me, I really like my condiments! (The hubby has named even me “The Condiment Queen”)
Recently I’ve started to take a look at how my excuses were limiting my potential and quality of life and are keeping me from achieving my longterm goals (one of which is fitness and releasing excess weight). And I had an awakening moment last week when I was going to completely avoid my workout.
Here’s how it went down in my head…
I have to go for a run today. Eh…it can wait till later. Well I don’t want to do it too late. It IS kinda raining. Yeah, it is kinda raining… AND it’s cold. Yeah, it’s kinda raining AND cold… I’m really tired. Yeah, it’s not only cold and kinda raining, I’m tired! I can skip today, or maybe I can do something else inside that’s less physically and mentally challenging. (Here’s where I text my friend to see if I could just do something else instead, being as he is the one who custom designed this workout program for me and is holding me accountable.) No answer…text again…no answer.
NO!!! I WILL NOT LET MY EXCUSES TAKE OVER THIS TIME!!
I layered my workout clothes, put on a vest, turned on some good tunes in my headphones and went for my run. I chose to go down by the lake so I would at least have the view of beautiful Lake Michigan.
And boy did it feel GREAT!!! Pushing myself past those limiting excuses to just get out there and do it. It wasn’t easy. I thought about quitting while I was running. But once again I pushed past those fears and excuses. I kept my end goal in mind, which is fitness and releasing excess weight which will lead to less pain in my body and a happier, healthier life.
So, what are your goals? Are you taking steps every day to work toward them? Do you just have an idea as to what your goals are but haven’t put them in writing?
Things that I am doing to work toward my goal are:
- eating nutrient rich foods daily
- doing something active daily
- reading books/articles
- getting enough sleep
Writing down your goals and having a clear concise plan of how you’re going to achieve them is absolutely necessary in order to succeed. If your goal is to have less pain in your body, are you making the commitment to work toward that by getting regular bodywork, myofascial release sessions, Reiki sessions, eating healthier, or working out if you’re able to? It’s also a good idea to have an accountability buddy so you don’t have to go at it alone. Finding someone who can check in with you daily to help keep you focused on your goals will help you so much. I am very grateful for my accountability buddies…you know who you are. (Yes, I’ve got a few!) They help keep me out of the victim mentality (I can’t!) to empower me to see that I can!
Although my license doesn’t allow me to give nutritional or exercise advice I can help you out with massage, myofascial release, and energy work to help you work toward your goals of feeling better and helping prevent your body from pain in the future.
So, what are you waiting for? You are worth it!
Come back next week when I talk more about being the victim and the triangle of disempowerment!
Yesterday I watched a speech by Jim Carey about fear. It really resonated with me and inspired this blog post. In the video posted here he says,
“so many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality.”
Wow! What a profound thought. It made me think about my path and in which decisions I have been fearless and which decisions I’m still disguising as practicality. It’s easy to make decisions based on our fear. Most of us live in fear of failure, fear of success, fear of the unknown, fear of vulnerability…the list goes on.
In fact, fear is exactly what has been keeping me from starting this blog…fear that I didn’t know what to write about, fear of not knowing how to voice myself, fear of being misunderstood, fear that nobody would be interested.
Well today I’m choosing to be fearless instead of fearful. When fear controls our lives we never live in joy and love. We make choices based on that fear and never live up to our true potential. If I don’t start my blog I can’t fail at my blog, right? Well, failing isn’t starting the blog and not succeeding at it. Failing is not starting the blog at all and assuming that nobody cares about what I have to say! (I’ll leave that up to you and not my fear.) Imagine all of that potential that you may be hiding from yourself and the world because of your fear!
Think about how you feel when you live in fear. Seriously, think about something you’re afraid of doing. Is it a career change? Moving to a new location? Ending a relationship that you know isn’t healthy? Where do you feel it in your body? Close your eyes if it helps to really tap into what’s going on inside of you. Now how does that fear make you feel? Does it make you feel nauseous? Sad? Angry? Do you feel pain somewhere in your body when you think about that fear?
Now I want you to think about something that brings you joy, something you love. Think about every aspect of that thing and all the ways it makes you happy. Allow that love and joy to fully encompass your being. Close your eyes and stay with that feeling for a few moments. How does that make you feel? Where are you feeling it in your body? Do you feel warm? Tingly? Full? Bright?
Which way would your rather feel? Sad, nauseous, in pain, or happy, warm, and bright? Holding those heavy thoughts and emotions in our bodies can create pain and dysfunction. I’m sure you don’t want to live in pain, I know I don’t! If you practice Reiki you can use it on yourself to help with some of those heavy feelings and pain to help bring about peace, happiness, and warmth. If you’re interested in learning Reiki you can learn more about it here.
A very hard decision to make fearlessly was the one to leave my well paying job at a high-end salon and spa to open up my own business in a recession. I remember family and friends saying to me, “are you sure it’s a good idea to open a business now in the recession? Massage is probably going to be one of the first things people cut out of their budget!” And although I was scared, I knew I was not fulfilling my life’s purpose by working where I was. Believe me, it wasn’t easy! It was quite terrifying in fact. I remember reading this quote over and over again by Patrick Overton and kept thinking , regardless of the outcome I will be ok. There will either be something solid for me to stand on or I will learn to fly!
“When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for you to stand upon or you will be taught to fly.”
How are you living your life right now? Are you full of fear or are you living life fearlessly. Think about your daily actions…where are they coming from? Are they coming from a place of fear or love? Are you doing what makes your heart sing? If not, ask yourself why. I encourage you to take small steps daily to work toward your goals and living your life in joy. What are the little changes that you can make that are more in alignment with what you want? Don’t let fear control your actions and decisions. Live your life fearlessly. I dare you to live your dreams!

Massage has been practiced for thousands of years. Today, if you need or want a massage, you can choose from among 80 massage therapy styles with a wide variety of pressures, movements, and techniques. These all involve pressing, rubbing, or manipulating muscles and other soft tissues with hands and fingers. Sometimes even forearms, elbows, or feet are used.
According to a 2007 American Massage Therapy Association survey, almost a quarter of all adult Americans had at least one massage in the previous year. And, they have a wide range of reasons for doing so. More and more people — especially baby boomers — recognize the health benefits of massage. They choose from among many massage styles to get relief from symptoms or to heal injuries, to help with certain health conditions, and to promote overall wellness.
